The JII Model

JII Model

The Jindal India Institute Model

JII is conceived to be bigger and more multidisciplinary in scope and scale than any of the existing Research Centres at JGU. It will draw upon the pre-existing intellectual expertise and resources of these Centres as well as its highly qualified global faculty base of over 1200 scholars, and also involve external thinkers and scholars of high repute, to generate knowledge in a variety of issue-areas that are relevant for the Indian century. While JII is wedded to a national endeavour of India’s rise, it is equally cognisant of the international nature of the narrative and discourse about India.

JGU’s international orientation and connections are unparalleled. It has active partnerships with more than 400 top-ranked universities of the world spread over 70 countries and is globally recognised as a young and innovative Indian university with impeccable credentials. JGU has the intellectual resources and international standing to ensure that JII has scale and impact to take the message of the Indian century not just to stakeholders within India but also across the world. An ambitious endeavour like JII which aims to project India’s rise in a convincing and independent manner requires a well-endowed and credible vector that only a top private university like JGU can provide.

Since its founding in 2009, JGU has won many prestigious research and training grants and contracts from international agencies, such as the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the US State Department, the United Nations Development Programme, the European Commission and the Government of Australia. True to its tagline as a ‘private university promoting public service’, JGU has also imparted training and capacity-building to more than 1000 civil servants, corporate executives and civil society members in various disciplines including Journalism, Financial Management, Law and Corporate Governance, Leadership and Professional Development, Project and Process Management, Economics, Marketing and Sales, Technology, Innovation, Strategy, Government and Public Policy, Taxation, Diplomacy and International Relations. Because of these strengths of JGU, JII will be able to team up with friends of India abroad and systematically build capacities of professionals from different fields about various aspects of the India story and the Indian century.

JGU is also known internationally for hosting short-term multidisciplinary ‘India Immersion’ programmes for visiting groups of foreign students. As of 2024, JGU had imparted India Immersion modules to over 600 young people from a variety of countries, including Australia, China, Israel, Syria, Taiwan, Vietnam, the UK and the USA. JII will scale up inbound short-term study programmes for thousands of additional foreign stakeholders so that they get a fair and objective picture of India and become brand ambassadors for India in their respective countries. Special attention will also be devoted to training Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), who are eager to nurture India consciousness among their younger generations and want them to visit India, learn in-depth about the India Story and reconnect with the heritage and values of their ancestral homeland. Special ‘India Immersion’ courses tailormade for the diaspora, in collaboration with prominent diaspora associations abroad, will be a priority at JII.
